Château Cos d'Estournel, a Second Growth estate in Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux, was founded in 1811 by Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a wine merchant who inherited vineyards near Cos village and expanded them to 45 hectares. Inspired by exports to India, he built exotic pagoda-style cellars. After his death in 1853, ownership changed hands multiple times, including to bankers and the Ginestet family. In 2000, Michel Reybier acquired it, modernizing facilities while preserving traditions. The estate now spans 91 hectares, emphasizing Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blends for powerful, age-worthy wines.
Nosing: Black fruits like currants, blueberries, and blackberries, with spicy black pepper, vanilla, toasty oak, floral hints, and forest floor.
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety, featuring dark berries, cassis, licorice, integrated tannins, combining power, elegance, and polished texture.
Finish: Long and firm, lingering with minerals, subtle dryness, and satisfying freshness.
