The origin of the name "Bourgogne Côte d'Or" dates back to the abbreviation of "Côte d'Orient" , a region facing east, like the vineyards of Nuits and Beaune. This appellation distinguishes the neighboring vineyards that produce the best vintages , and the fame of its wines even influenced the name of the department during the Revolution. It is a prestigious appellation for the best categories of Burgundy wines .
In 2017, producers of the regional appellation "Bourgogne", located in the Côtes de Beaune and Nuits, obtained the complementary mention "BOURGOGNE CÔTE D'OR" , thus raising its status to that of a Burgundy with Complementary Geographical Designation . This designation is reserved for red and white wines produced in a specific area encompassing 40 communes , extending over 65 km long and one to two kilometers wide, from Dijon to Maranges.
The plot in question, named "La Corvée au Prêtre", benefits from a prestigious location , which you can discover by consulting the map in the product visuals. In wine-growing Burgundy, the term "corvée" does not have a pejorative connotation, but rather that of "work for hire", paid in currency. For example, there is a very famous clos des corvées in Comblanchien. La corvée au Prêtre was thus a plot that the priest had work for hire .
Part of the vine is old, with some Pinot Beurot vines that reduce the acidity of the Pinot Noir . The other part, formerly planted with Aligoté, will be harvested for the first time in 2020. The wine is made in cold vatting , as is the traditional practice. It can be enjoyed young or aged for several years . The grape variety used is 100% Pinot Noir .
