Ardbeg Traigh Bhan Batch 6, a 19-year-old Islay single malt matured in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks with increased bourbon influence, is bottled at 46.2% ABV without chill-filtration. This annual release, inspired by Islay's Singing Sands beach, offers a refined balance of peat and sweetness, showcasing Ardbeg's signature smoke with elegant maturity and brighter tropical notes from the enhanced bourbon casks. Nosing begins gently with olive oil lapping over tar and chocolate ginger biscuits, mingled with freshly cut grass for a curious freshness. Subtle smoked honey, seaweed, mesquite smoke, dried pineapple, lightly toasted oak, baked red apple, dried mushrooms, ash, and tropical floral hints emerge, evoking a savory yet vibrant peat. After swirling, it evolves to smoky honey, dried seaweed, starfruit, toasted oak, burnt vegetal mezcal-like notes, clove, pineapple, dried green apple, and toasted malt, maintaining pleasant richness without overwhelming intensity. Adding water unleashes peppermint, tarry rope, peat smoke, and fennel for a sooty vintage surge. On the palate, a slightly oily mouthcoating introduces intense minty sweetness, followed by waves of creosote, coal tar soap, bonfire embers, smoked pineapple, toasted bread, dark chocolate, peppermint cream, and camphor. It unfolds with smoky honey, candied pineapple, seaweed, roasted oak, vanilla, cinnamon, toasted malt, preserved lemon, and green grapes, blending tropical vibrance with moderate smokiness and savory seaweed. Intense chewing reveals richer smoky honey, starfruit, dried seaweed and mushrooms, vanilla, lemon, roasted oak, and ash-like burnt crust. The finish is long and unhurried, carrying coffee grounds, liquorice, smoky honey, dried seaweed, toasted oak, starfruit, dried mushrooms, lingering with sweet lemon and ash for a graceful, peaty fade. This batch harmonizes Ardbeg's bold peat with refined, fruity elegance.
