BenRiach Distillery, located in the Speyside region of Scotland, was founded in 1898 by John Duff. Nestled near the town of Elgin, it sits in the heart of one of the most prolific whisky-producing areas, surrounded by rolling barley fields and pure water sources. Initially built to supply malt for blends, BenRiach fell silent during much of the 20th century due to industry challenges, remaining closed from 1900 to 1965. It was revived by Glenlivet Distillers and later acquired by an independent consortium in 2004, which marked a turning point for its reputation as a single malt producer.
Under the leadership of master distiller Billy Walker, BenRiach gained acclaim for its innovative approach, producing a diverse range of whiskies, including peated and unpeated expressions, as well as triple-distilled varieties—a rarity in Scotland. Its core range includes the 10-year-old and 12-year-old single malts, known for their fruity, honeyed, and complex profiles. In 2016, it was acquired by Brown-Forman, ensuring continued investment. BenRiach also offers cask experimentation, with finishes in various woods like sherry and rum. The distillery welcomes visitors, providing tours that showcase its rich history and dedication to craftsmanship in Speyside whisky production.
