Bruichladdich Distillery was established in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on Scotland's Islay island, the last Victorian-era distillery built. It closed in 1994 and was revived in 2001 by independent investors, acquired by Remy Cointreau in 2012. The Octomore series, launched in 2008, is renowned for its extreme peat levels, pushing single malt boundaries.
This Octomore 16.1 is an Islay single malt whisky, distilled in 2019 and aged for 5 years in first-fill bourbon oak casks. Peated to 101.4 PPM, at 59.3% ABV, non-chill filtered with natural color. Made from Scottish mainland barley, it features a soft profile. The nose is strikingly fresh with peat smoke, salted caramel, honey, stone fruits, and green tropical notes like melon and banana. The palate is juicy and sweet, blending powdered sugar, fruit cake, pudding, dark chocolate, and a peppery salty finish. Overall, it balances smoke, fruit, and sweetness, showcasing Octomore's depth and freshness.
