Bruichladdich Distillery was established in 1881 by the Harvey brothers on Scotland's Islay island, the last Victorian-era distillery built. It closed in 1994 and was revived in 2001 by independent investors, acquired by Remy Cointreau in 2012. The Octomore series, launched in 2008, is renowned for its extreme peat levels, pushing single malt boundaries.
This Octomore 16.3 is an Islay single malt whisky, distilled in 2019 and aged for 5 years in first-fill bourbon oak casks and European oak casks from Sauternes and Pedro Ximénez. Peated to 189.5 PPM, at 62.6% ABV, non-chill filtered with natural color. Made from 100% Islay Octomore Farm barley, it features an earthy undertone. The nose offers ripe barley, honeyed malt, citrus peel, sea salt, delicate smoke, orchard fruits, and toasted grain. The palate is dense with smoke, toasted grain, earthiness, orchard fruits, citrus, vanilla, salinity, heather, and gorse. Overall, it balances smoke, fruit, and sweetness, showcasing Octomore's depth and unique earthy style.
