Deanston Distillery, located near Doune in the Scottish Highlands, originated as a cotton mill in 1785, designed by Richard Arkwright. It operated for nearly 180 years, employing over 1,000 workers at its peak, powered by Europe's largest water wheel on the River Teith. The mill closed in 1965 and was converted into a distillery in 1966 by Deanston Distillers Ltd., a consortium including James Finlay & Co., Brodie Hepburn & Co., and A.B. Grant. Production began in 1969. Sold to Invergordon in 1972, it closed in 1982 but reopened in 1990 under Burn Stewart Distillers. Now owned by Distell (Heineken), it produces unpeated single malts using hydro power and traditional methods, emphasizing sustainability.

Nosing: Heavy sherry influence with dried fruits like raisins, plums, figs; tart cherries, honey, and subtle malt.

Palate: Sweet honeyed malt, fruitcake, raisins, nutmeg, oak, with a dash of pepper; creamy texture.

Finish: Moderate to long, warming and slightly drying, with lingering dried figs, spice, and oak-infused sweetness.
