Château La Tour Carnet traces its history to the 11th century, making it one of Bordeaux's oldest continuously operating estates. Initially an English military fortress, it came under French control in the 12th century and passed through various owners, including the Leutken family. In 1999, Bernard Magrez acquired it, expanding the vineyard to 190 hectares and establishing it as a key producer in Haut-Médoc.
The 2009 Château La Tour Carnet is a Haut-Médoc Grand Cru Classé red wine, blended from 53% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Production involves cooling grapes to 8°C before whole-berry fermentation in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation in tanks. 85-90% of the wine ages for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels, the remainder in clay amphorae. It features a modern, Merlot-dominant style with deep color, aromas of coffee, licorice, black and blue fruits, and chocolate. The palate is concentrated, fleshy, and flashy, with red fruits, plum, mineral notes, supersilky tannins, and a long finish. It requires a few years for oak integration to achieve full balance and depth.
