Linkwood Distillery, nestled in Speyside, Scotland, was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown on his estate, with legal distillation starting in 1824 post-Excise Act. His son William inherited it in 1868, rebuilding in 1872 for expansion. Ownership shifted to Robertson & Baxter in 1898, then Scottish Malt Distillers in 1932, and now Diageo. Mothballed in 1985-1990, it resumed full production in 2008. Renowned for light, floral whiskies mainly for blends, it features six stills and occasional single malts, emphasizing quality over quantity.
The Linkwood 30 Year Old 1995 Signatory Symington's Choice Cask #4 is a single malt distilled in 1995, matured in a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, bottled in 2025 at 50.9% ABV, un-chillfiltered.
Nosing: Deep sherry richness with dried fruits like raisins and figs, chocolate, citrus zest, and subtle floral apple hints.
Palate: Powerful and sharp, layers of dark chocolate, nuts, dried berries, citric sharpness that smooths with water.
Finish: Long sour-sweet, lingering oak, fruit, and faint coal-gas.
