Meursault Blanc 2023, produced by the renowned Maison Louis Latour, embodies the classic elegance of Burgundy white wines from the Côte de Beaune region. This appellation is located in the village of Meursault, renowned for its clay-limestone soils that impart richness and minerality to Chardonnay-based wines. The vineyards benefit from a favorable microclimate, with vines averaging 25 years in age contributing depth and complexity. Yields are controlled at 45 hectoliters per hectare, and grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal maturity and quality, reflecting the producer's commitment to terroir-driven expressions.
The vinification process adheres to traditional Burgundy methods, including fermentation in oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation to enhance creaminess and texture. Ageing lasts 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels, of which 15% are new, providing medium toasting that imparts subtle vanilla and toasted bread flavors without overpowering the fruit. This process yields a wine with a cellaring potential of 3 to 5 years, allowing it to develop further nuances, and a recommended serving temperature of 12-14°C to highlight its balance and freshness.
Tasting notes reveal a bright pale yellow hue, with the nose captivated by aromas of lemon, subtle vanilla, and honeysuckle. The palate is ample and round, showcasing vanilla, fresh almond, and citrus flavors, balanced by a mineral backbone that provides a fine mineral finish, reflecting the vintage's vibrant character. The overall profile balances opulence with acidity, featuring characteristics such as citrus, fresh butter, and baking spices, culminating in a creamy tropical edge accompanied by juicy orange and apple flavors.
Ideal pairings include seafood, fish, shellfish, and charcuterie platters, where the wine's acidity cuts through richness—such as in lemon fennel-braised black cod—while complementing delicate elements like goat cheese or poultry. Specific pairing suggestions include shrimp cocktail with poached pear, grilled sea bass, veal stewed in cream sauce, and Beaufort cheese.
