Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, The Macallan is one of Scotland’s earliest licensed distilleries, situated on a 485-acre estate by the River Spey. The Macallan Classic Cut 2024 is distilled in the distillery’s unique “curiously small” copper pot stills, increasing copper contact to reduce sulfides and enhance fruitiness. Matured in a combination of American bourbon casks and European and American Oloroso sherry-seasoned oak casks (age not specified, NAS), it is bottled at 52.4% ABV by master blender Steven Bremner to emphasize bold vanilla notes. Appearance: Amber with a sunlit golden glow, showing thick legs and a rich texture.

Nose: Intense vanilla and almond milk lead a creamy base, followed by citrus peel, tropical fruits (mango, pineapple), and subtle woody smoke. Chocolate, dried herbs, and sweet malt emerge over time, adding complexity.

Palate: Full-bodied and robust, offering creamy vanilla, baked custard, milk chocolate, sweet green apple, and dried fruits (raisins, apricots). Oak contributes warm spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger) balanced by mild herbal notes (fresh thyme). The high ABV adds slight heat but integrates well; dilution highlights tropical fruit and lemon.

Finish: Medium-long to long, blending orchard fruits (pear, apple), vanilla, caramel, and nectar, with a sweet, warm finish, slight oak dryness, and lingering honey.
