Description
The Yoichi Distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, is Nikka Whisky's first facility in Hokkaido, Japan. Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese whisky, trained in Scotland and selected Yoichi for its cool climate, pure water, and coastal environment resembling Scotland. The distillery employs traditional methods, including direct coal-fired pot stills—a rare technique that imparts bold character—and worm tub condensers. Owned by Asahi Group since 1954, Yoichi was designated a Japanese Important Cultural Property in 2021. It produces peated and unpeated malts, emphasizing craftsmanship.

Yoichi 10 Year Old is a single malt relaunched in 2023 after discontinuation in 2015, commemorating the distillery's cultural status. Aged 10 years at 45% ABV, it features subtle peat from coal-fired distillation, offering unique depth and tropical notes.

Nosing: Bright and fresh with tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, subtle peat smoke, citrus, vanilla, floral hints, and seaside saltiness.

Palate: Creamy texture with custard, warm spices, golden raisins, mint, buttery vanilla, light smoke, and fruity malt sweetness.

Finish: Medium length, fading peat and smoke, sweet fruit linger with subtle salt and earthiness.
