Distillery History:
Aberlour sits on the Lour burn in Speyside. James Fleming rebuilt the site and began commercial distillation in 1879. Water comes from Ben Rinnes springs; the house style is fruit and sherry wood. A’Bunadh is the cask-strength sherry flagship; the core range has long used double-cask maturation. Now under Pernod Ricard. The 18-year-old was dropped, then returned as this Double Sherry Cask Finish in small batches. Batch 1 is the first.
Whisky Introduction:
Eighteen years in American and European oak, then a double finish in Spanish-oak first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts. Oloroso brings dried fruit and nuts; PX adds sticky raisin sweetness. Bottled at 43% as a small batch, not a single cask. Sherrier and older than the 12-year Double Cask; softer and easier than A’Bunadh. Batch 001 was bottled around June 2022 and sets the series baseline.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Ripe fruit, orange zest, toffee buns and plum jam.
Palate: Apricot, chocolate-coated raisins, liquorice and grated nutmeg.
Finish: Long and sweet, dried fruit and cocoa.
