Distillery History:
Destilerías Campeny is on the Barcelona coast at El Masnou. Akori is the house’s Japanese-inspired gin line, built on a rice and cereal base rather than classic wheat neutral spirit. The original Akori is 42% in a deep-blue bottle. Yuzu is the citrus branch of the same range, in a yellow bottle with a citrus branch. It is still a gin: juniper remains the spine.
Gin Introduction:
Bottled at 40%, two points below the original Akori. Yuzu leads, with juniper, ginger and kumquat; some notes still mention dragon fruit. The house calls it Japanese-inspired; it is not distilled in Japan. The rice base stays clean. Versus the original’s dragon fruit and kumquat, yuzu acid and peel are clearer, and ginger sits further back. Suited to gin and tonic and light cocktails.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Yuzu, juniper and citrus peel.
Palate: Fresh, bright acid, light spice.
Finish: Medium, faintly bitter citrus.
