Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine Reclassified 14 Year Old - 70cl/54.2%

Distillery History:
Bruichladdich was built on Islay’s west shore in 1881 and is known for unpeated malt and open production. Closed in 1994, it restarted in 2001 under independents. In 2005 fishermen hauled a yellow mini-sub from nearby waters; the navy claimed it only months later. The distillery answered with the WMD (Whisky of Mass Distinction) Yellow Submarine series, mocking an earlier intelligence scare. For the 25th anniversary of the restart, Adam Hannett issued this third, Reclassified edition.

Whisky Introduction:
100% Scottish barley, unpeated, matured entirely on Islay. The recipe nods to the 2005 14-year-old without copying it: 75% first-fill bourbon for honeyed oats and shortbread, 25% French red-wine casks for hazelnut and structure. Bottled at 54.2%, non-chill-filtered, no added colour. Yellow glass keeps the joke alive. An anniversary story bottle, not a core expression—modern Bruichladdich: floral, saline, baked-sweet.

Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Honeyed oats, buttery shortbread, toasted hazelnut and nutmeg, citrus and sea salt.
Palate: Orange zest, honeysuckle, apple and pear, then crème brûlée.
Finish: Honey, gentle spice and an Islay breeze.
