Bruichladdich Distillery was founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers—William, John, and Robert—on the shores of Loch Indaal on Islay, Scotland. As part of a whisky dynasty that owned Glasgow distilleries since 1770, they built a modern Victorian facility. It faced multiple closures due to economic challenges, wars, and ownership changes, including shutdowns in 1907, the 1920s-1930s, and 1994. Revived in 2001 by investors including Mark Reynier and master distiller Jim McEwan, it focused on terroir, transparency, and unpeated styles. Acquired by Rémy Cointreau in 2012, it emphasizes sustainability, community ties, and a range of peated and unpeated whiskies.
Nosing: Beautifully fragrant with ripe peach, honeysuckle, violet, lavender, vanilla, creamed coconut, tropical fruits like melon, peaches, apricots, vibrant citrus, honey, caramel, and vanilla custard.Palate: Luxurious and viscous, honey, butterscotch, fresh fruits, sweet porridge, barley sugar, toasted oak, tropical fruit, subtle leather, and honeycomb.Finish: Satisfying with ginger, oak spice, hint of coastal saltiness, drying with light acidity.
