Château Lascombes, a Second Growth in Margaux, Bordeaux, traces its origins to the 17th century under Antoine Chevalier de Lascombes, inherited from the Durfort de Duras family. In the late 1700s, it was acquired by Comte Jean-Jules Theophile Chaix-d’Est-Ange. Ownership shifted multiple times; in 1926, it joined the Ginestet family, serving as Allied headquarters during WWII. In 1952, Alexis Lichine and investors, including David Rockefeller, purchased and modernized it, replanting vineyards and upgrading facilities. Sold to Bass Charrington in 1971, then Colony Capital in 2001 for major renovations. Acquired by MACSF in 2011 and Lawrence Family Wine Estates in 2022, with Axel Heinz as director. The estate now covers 120 hectares of gravel terroir.
The 2017 Château Lascombes Margaux is a full-bodied Bordeaux red blend, showcasing ripe fruits and structure in a challenging vintage.
Nosing: Ripe blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, black raspberries, mulberries, with hints of vanilla, violets, cedar, smoke, baking spices, cigar box, and pencil lead.
Palate: Creamy tannins, black fruits like cassis and berries, licorice, balanced by acidity and velvety texture for elegance and depth.
Finish: Long and flavorful, with spicy, mineral notes, lingering dryness, and satisfying fruit echoes.
