Producer History:Château Phélan Ségur is located in Saint-Estèphe on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Founded in the early 19th century by Irish-born Bernard Phélan, the estate covers around 70 hectares of clay-limestone and gravel soils overlooking the Gironde estuary. Since 2017 it has been owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere, continuing the classic Médoc style of structured yet elegant wines.
Wine Introduction:Petit Phélan Ségur 2017 is the second wine of Château Phélan Ségur, made from younger vines and selected fruit. The 2017 vintage was marked by spring frost, but the estate’s elevated terroir was largely spared. With a higher Cabernet Sauvignon proportion than usual, the wine is more approachable than the grand vin, offering bright black fruit and fine tannins typical of Saint-Estèphe.
Tasting Notes:Aroma: Ripe black fruits – blackcurrant and blackberry – with subtle cedar and toasted spice.Palate: Rounded and juicy with black fruit, fine tannins, elegant structure and earthy spice notes.Finish: Medium-long with lingering black fruit and fine mineral character.
