Domaine Cordier (also known as Domaine Christophe Cordier or Famille Cordier) is located in the village of Fuissé in Burgundy’s Mâconnais. Founded by Roger Cordier in the 1930s with just 5 hectares, it was expanded significantly when Christophe Cordier took over in 1987. He stopped selling grapes to négociants, focused on estate bottlings, and grew the domaine to around 32 hectares across over 100 parcels. Since 2018, the estate has converted to organic and biodynamic farming (Demeter certification from 2024 harvest), often using horses for plowing to preserve soil health. It is regarded as one of the top producers in the Mâconnais, emphasizing pure terroir expression.
Domaine Cordier Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru Vers Cras 2023 is a Premier Cru white made from Chardonnay in the Vers Cras climat (straddling Fuissé and Solutré-Pouilly, with young Jurassic limestone and reddish conglomerate soils that are thin and poor). Vers Cras delivers an elegant, precise style rather than the classic opulent Fuissé richness. The 2023 vintage shows concentration, freshness and aging potential. Vines average 85 years old with low yields (~20 hl/ha), hand-harvested, and traditionally vinified to highlight mineral-fruit harmony.
Tasting Notes
Nosing: Pure stony terroir combined with ripe pear, white peach and mango fruit, layered with subtle toasted bread and mineral notes—elegant and deep.
Palate: Full-bodied yet well-balanced, with stone fruit, citrus and white floral flavors; strong minerality, silky texture and vibrant acidity providing excellent tension.
Finish: Long, clean and persistent with saline mineral and fruit echoes; complex and energetic. A refined, precise Vers Cras suited for drinking now or short-to-medium aging.
