Distillery History:
Glengoyne sits on the Highland–Lowland line north of Glasgow. George Connell founded it in 1833; the name means “glen of the wild geese.” It is known for one of Scotland’s slowest distillations and air-dried, unpeated malt. Ian Macleod Distillers has owned it since 2003 and built a dedicated sherry-cask supply. The Taiwan PluX series uses custom first-fill PX wood from that chain.
Whisky Introduction:
PX Cask Edition was built for Taiwan: Batches 1–3 were easy-drinking bottles around 43%; 2026 is chapter four and the finale. This 12-year-old is matured in Spanish first-fill PX casks, pushing candied fruit, prune and brown-sugar sweetness beyond the standard 12. A separate cask-strength 12-year PX batch exists at about 58%; Batch 4 here is the drinking-strength close. Unpeated, slow-distilled spirit keeps the PX from turning cloying.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Candied fruit, prune, brown sugar and PX richness, with stewed apple and citrus.
Palate: Crème brûlée, dried fruit and fine malt, on a round, silky body.
Finish: Warm and medium-long—chocolate, date and oak.
