Distillery History:
Glengoyne sits at Dumgoyne on the southern Highland edge, founded in 1833 and now under Ian Macleod. Barley is air-dried only—never peated—and the stills are among Scotland’s slowest, chasing clean fruit. Sherry wood, especially Oloroso and PX, drives the older and single-cask range. Cask #986 is an official single cask for Taiwan, in the house’s slow, sweet-sherry line.
Whisky Introduction:
Distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2026 from one PX sherry butt at 55.3%, 614 bottles. Pedro Ximénez is sweeter and stickier than Oloroso—raisin, syrup, chocolate. Unlike the vatted 18- and 21-year sherried cores, this is full-term PX, undiluted. Official single casks are typically non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured. A market-exclusive collector cask, not a regular series bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Raisin, fig, brown sugar and dark chocolate, with cinnamon.
Palate: Full and sweet—date paste, syrup, toasted oak and cocoa.
Finish: Long and warm, PX sweetness against dry oak.
