Distillery History:
Kavalan was founded by King Car in 2005 at Yuanshan, Yilan—Taiwan’s first modern whisky distillery. Snow Mountain water and heat-humidity drive a high angel’s share and fast extraction. Jim Swan and Ian Chang set the tropical-fruit house style. Solist is the single-cask, cask-strength line; peated releases are scarce, usually on Scottish peated malt at modest phenol so smoke frames fruit rather than burying it.

A Hong Kong Exclusive Solist Peated, cask R160912082C, bottled at 55.6%. The R code marks refill oak; the date stamp points to 12 September 2016. Heavily peated malt, copper double distillation, non-chill-filtered, no colour. Versus the 53.2% and other market peated Solists, strength and cask number are specific to this bottle. The axis is campfire peat plus Kavalan’s grilled pineapple, mango and beeswax sweet.

Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Peat and charcoal, grilled pineapple, mango, honey and beeswax.
Palate: Oily and full—smoke, dark chocolate, dried fruit and vanilla oak.
Finish: Long, campfire smoke with tropical sweetness.
