Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "En Caradeux" 2022, crafted by the esteemed Maison Louis Latour, stands as a premier expression of Chardonnay from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region. Located in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, this Premier Cru appellation benefits from a mid-slope vineyard with eastern exposure, facing the iconic hill of Corton. The terroir features stony soils over a base of marl and flint limestone, complemented by clay and limestone elements, which impart minerality and structure to the wine. Vines averaging 25 years in age contribute maturity and depth, with yields restricted to 40 hectoliters per hectare. Grapes are meticulously hand-picked to preserve quality and reflect the site's unique characteristics.

Vinification follows traditional Burgundy practices, beginning with fermentation in oak barrels, including complete malolactic fermentation to enhance creaminess and balance. Ageing extends for 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels sourced from Louis Latour's own cooperage, with 25% new barrels providing medium toasting for subtle wood integration. This results in a wine with a cellaring potential of 5 to 7 years, allowing it to evolve gracefully. Recommended serving temperature is 12-14°C, which accentuates its freshness and complexity.

Tasting notes reveal a pale yellow hue and a powerful bouquet that captivates with intensity. On the palate, it exhibits a rich, round profile—described as "fat" in texture—with aromas of grilled almonds, mellow oak, and a balanced structure. The finish is tense yet harmonious, offering good length and a lingering minerality that underscores its terroir-driven elegance.

Ideal pairings include shellfish and fish, where the wine's acidity and body complement delicate flavors while cutting through richness. Press acclaim further elevates its status: Wine Spectator awarded 90 points, highlighting notes of lemon curd, white peach, apple, mineral, and baking spice accents. Burgundy Report's Bill Nanson praised its fine, fresh, silky qualities, stony finish, and delicious character, noting it as enjoyable in the near term.
