Producer History:Luzhou Laojiao, based in Luzhou, Sichuan, traces its brewing heritage to 1324 when Guo Huaiyu created the “sweet and mellow” Daqu starter, pioneering Chinese Daqu liquor. Its 1573 cellars remain in continuous use and form the foundation of the strong-aroma (Nongxiang) style. Recognised as one of China’s Four Famous Liquors in 1952, its traditional techniques are listed as national intangible cultural heritage.
Wine / Spirit Introduction:Luzhou Laojiao Zisha Daqu is a core expression in the Tequ lineage, descending from the “300-year-old cellar Daqu” that won gold at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. Made from glutinous red sorghum using centuries-old pits and traditional Daqu fermentation, it is finished in porous Yixing purple-clay bottles that allow the spirit to continue maturing. It unites classic strong-aroma craftsmanship with zisha culture for depth and refinement.
Tasting Notes:Nosing: Rich cellar aroma with floral (jasmine), ripe fruit and caramel notes, plus subtle soy and spice.Palate: Full and oily with a thick texture; spicy warmth balanced by mellow sweetness and layered complexity.Finish: Long and savoury with lingering umami, aged notes and a fragrant aftertaste.
