Malfy Originale Gin - 70cl/41%

Distillery History:
Malfy is made by the Vergnano family’s Torino Distillati in Piedmont; distillers include Beppe Ronco and Denis Muni. The name nods to Amalfi; the bottle base recalls Monviso’s alpine lakes. Flavoured citrus gins made the brand famous; Originale is the juniper-led dry base. A stainless vacuum still at low temperature keeps botanicals bright—Italian freshness rather than heavy London Dry.

Gin Introduction:
Originale is the “plain” expression: hand-picked Italian juniper and Italian lemon with coriander, cassia, angelica, orris, orange peel and grapefruit peel. Grain spirit is vacuum-distilled about five hours and cut with Monviso spring water to 41%. Crystal clear. Official notes: dry, almost salty-dry, juniper and liquorice at the core, citrus at the edge. Unlike Con Arancia, Rosa and Con Limone it is uncoloured and not fruit-led. Built for a classic gin and tonic.

Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Juniper, coriander and cassia, faint anise and citrus peel.
Palate: Dry and slightly saline—juniper, liquorice and light citrus.
Finish: Long and dry, herbal spice.
