Estate History:
Maugeri is an Etna family project of return, run by Carla, Michela, Paola and Renato, focused on Milo—the only commune allowed to use Etna Bianco Superiore. About 700 m up, 83 lava-stone terraces face the Ionian Sea. Organic farming, alberello vines. Gambero Rosso named them an emerging estate; Volpare ’23 took Tre Bicchieri. The aim is to tell Milo through its contrade, in Carricante.
Wine Introduction:
100% Carricante from Contrada Volpare: sandy volcanic soil, east-facing. Hand-picked, whole-bunch cold soak about three hours, gentle pneumatic press; 90% steel and 10% 500-litre French tonneaux, no malolactic, eight months on lees. Versus the site bottlings Frontebosco and Frontemare, Volpare is the estate’s calling-card wine. 2025 keeps the low-alcohol, iodine-and-mineral line. Production has run roughly six to ten thousand bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Orange blossom, lime, broom, a touch of iodine and volcanic ash.
Palate: Medium body—stone fruit, lemon and sea-salt.
Finish: Long, mineral and citrus peel.
