Monochrome Essence #1 – Highland Blended Malt 12 Years Old - 70cl/46.5%

A brand new series released by Club Qing in 2026 – Monochrome Essence. This series explores form through removal rather than addition. Each painting is reduced to its most essential lines, allowing presence to emerge without distraction. By limiting gesture and detail, the work invites quiet observation and reflection. What remains is not a representation, but an impression, a moment where shape, space, and restraint meet in balance.

In whisky, essence is not created. It is revealed.

• During maturation, spirit loses volume to evaporation and interaction with wood.

• What disappears is not waste, but part of the process.

• Over time, the whisky becomes more itself, not more complicated.

Monochrome Essence reflects the idea that maturation is a process of loss leading to definition. The final whisky is what remains after time, wood, and patience have removed what is unnecessary.

An expression created by carefully vatting two second-fill PX sherry quarter casks. The casks were deliberately matured to enhance the angel’s share and achieve a very rounded texture. This blended malt was ranked #1 by our tasting panel in a blind tasting of ten samples. Nose is gentle, with cream, grapefruits, papayas and green mangoes. The palete is rather sweet, with ripe fruits and honey with a medium finish on citrus fruits and milk chocolate.
