Distillery History:
Paul John belongs to John Distilleries; the stills sit at Cuncolim in Goa, founded by Paul P. John. Six-row barley from the Himalayan foothills and tropical warehouses mature spirit far faster than in Scotland. Most of the core range is 46% and non-chill-filtered. Nirvana is the softer, lower-strength unpeated door—kin to Brilliance and Kanya—aimed at mixing and first tastings of Indian single malt.
Whisky Introduction:
Nirvana is the entry bottle: unpeated, mainly second- and third-fill bourbon, chill-filtered and bottled at 40% (43% in some markets). Official notes stress honeycomb, fruitcake and caramel pudding, plus salt-edged barley. Angel’s share is high in the heat, so unmarked age can taste older than a Scottish peer. Versus the cask-strength and peated lines, this stays on honey, vanilla and tropical fruit.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Honeycomb, fruitcake, caramel pudding and light bourbon vanilla.
Palate: Honeyed malt, a pinch of salt, apricot and toffee.
Finish: Medium-long—vanilla and dissolving honey.
