Distillery History
Royal Brackla Distillery, established in 1812 by Captain William Fraser on the Cawdor Estate in Nairn, Scotland, is one of the oldest in the Highlands. It became the first whisky distillery to receive a royal warrant from King William IV in 1833, earning the prefix "Royal" and the title "The King's Own Whisky." Queen Victoria renewed the warrant in 1838. Over the years, it changed ownership multiple times, and since 1998, it has been owned by Bacardi, which has promoted it as a single malt brand.

Whisky Profile
Nosing: Subtle and mellow with green apples, airy oak, cocoa nibs, honey, apricot, and hints of vanilla cream and orange zest from the sherry influence.
Palate: Rich and coating mouth-feel featuring orchard fruits like peaches and plums, milk chocolate, raisins, sultanas, and subtle notes of anise and spice.
Finish: Medium-long, with lingering vanilla, spice, and a balanced salty complexity turning slightly bitter.

Sherry Casks Comparison
Palo Cortado sherry casks, used in this finish, begin with biological aging under flor yeast like Fino, but lose the flor and shift to oxidative aging like Oloroso, making them rare. Oloroso casks are fully oxidative from the start without flor. Palo Cortado imparts balanced flavors: fresh, dry notes (almonds, citrus peel) with Oloroso-like richness (hazelnuts, spices, tobacco). Oloroso adds intense dried fruits, nuts, and spices for bolder depth. Thus, Palo Cortado yields a more elegant, multifaceted whisky versus Oloroso's robust intensity.
