Distillery History:Mortlach was founded in 1823 in Dufftown, Speyside, one of the oldest distilleries there. Famous for its unique 2.81 times distillation process, it produces a robust, meaty style with rich fruit and sherry influence, known as “The Beast of Dufftown.” Owned by Diageo, most goes into blends with limited official single malts. Independent bottler Signatory Vintage, established in 1988, excels at premium casks. Its 100 Proof Edition series bottles at fixed 57.1% ABV, undiluted, un-chillfiltered and natural colour to showcase Mortlach’s full power.

Whisky Introduction:This Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Edition #73 matured 11 years in First-Fill Oloroso Sherry Butt and Refill Hogsheads. Bottled in 2026, it combines Mortlach’s signature meaty malt with rich dried fruits, chocolate and spice from the sherry casks, delivering a bold and balanced Speyside profile.

Tasting Notes:Nosing: Rich malt, stewed fruits, toffee, leather and subtle spice.Palate: Full-bodied and oily – dark chocolate, dried fruits, savoury notes, black pepper and oak.Finish: Long, warming and complex with lingering spice, malt and gentle bitterness.
