Springbank Distillery was established in 1828 in Campbeltown, Scotland, on the site of Archibald Mitchell's illicit still, becoming the 14th licensed distillery in the region. The Mitchell family, who arrived in Campbeltown in the 1660s from the lowlands, were already involved in malting. In 1837, brothers John and William Mitchell took ownership. Later, John formed J&A Mitchell & Co. with his son, which still owns the distillery today. As one of only three remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the whisky capital, Springbank preserves traditional methods, including 100% floor malting and on-site bottling.
This 2025 limited edition is the fourth in Springbank's five-part Sherry Wood Series, with 11,400 bottles worldwide. It highlights Fino sherry's dry, biological maturation under flor yeast, imparting unique yeasty, saline, and mineral profiles with Mediterranean herbs, fresh dough, and almonds. The 4-year refill bourbon followed by 6-year fresh Fino hogshead aging enhances Springbank's maritime and lightly peated character, creating a vibrant, refreshing dram distinct from standard bourbon-sherry blends, balancing fruitiness with subtle sharpness.
