Nikka Whisky was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, in Yoichi, Hokkaido, selected for its cool, humid climate resembling Scotland. After studying distillation in Scotland from 1918-1920 and working at Suntory, Taketsuru established his own distillery to create authentic whisky. In 1969, he added the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture for diverse malt profiles. The Taketsuru line honors him, blending pure malts from both Yoichi's robust, peated style and Miyagikyo's elegant, fruity notes for harmonious expressions.
The Taketsuru NAS Pure Malt is a non-age-statement blended malt at 43% ABV, harmonizing Yoichi's robustness with Miyagikyo's elegance.
Nosing: Sweet citrus like orange peel and navel orange, berries, caramel, vanilla, subtle oak toast, and light floral hints.
Palate: Fruity layers of banana, pear, berries; rich malt, honey, gentle spice, and smooth, balanced texture.
Finish: Long and warming, with oak dryness, subtle smoke, and lingering sweet fruit.
