Distillery History:
The Glendronach is in the Highlands, founded in 1826 by James Allardice and tied to hospitality at Boynsmill House. Sherry maturation is the signature, running through Allardice, Parliament and the rest. After several owners it sits with Brown-Forman; Rachel Barrie is master blender. For the 2026 bicentenary the house released this and a 56-year-old, marking the founder’s house and his table.
Whisky Introduction:
Fourteen years, mainly in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez, then a small number of former Claret casks for red berry and spice. The Claret nods to Bordeaux on Allardice’s table; it is not a full-term wine-cask whisky. 46.8%, natural colour. Versus the core 12- or 15-year sherry malts, this adds a red-wine fruit layer while staying in Glendronach’s dried-fruit and toffee frame. Limited from September 2026.
Tasting Notes:
Nosing: Highland toffee, bramble, stone fruit, raisin and hazelnut.
Palate: Plush malt, dried fruit, nuts and chocolate caramel.
Finish: Bramble, raisin and stone fruit.
