Winery history:Bodegas Valdespino traces its origins to 1264, when Alonso Valdespino was granted land in Jerez. The modern company was established in 1875 and acquired by Grupo Estévez in 1999. It is known for traditional solera ageing and high-quality Sherry ranges.
Wine notes:This is Valdespino El Candado Pedro Ximénez. The grapes are sun-dried into raisins before vinification, fortified to around 17% and aged oxidatively in a solera system for an average of 8-12 years. The bottle features a small padlock, commemorating a family story of locking away a special barrel.
Tasting notes:Nosing: raisins, figs, toffee, dark chocolate and coffee.Palate: thick and sweet, silky and full, with layers of dried fruit and spice.Finish: long and persistent, with caramel and warm dried-fruit close.
