Winery history:Bodegas Valdespino traces its origins to 1264, when Alonso Valdespino was granted land in Jerez. The modern company was established in 1875 and acquired by Grupo Estévez in 1999. It remains known for oak-barrel fermentation, the single-vineyard Macharnudo Alto site, and traditional solera ageing, making it one of the most traditional houses in Jerez.
Wine notes:This is Valdespino Tio Diego Amontillado, made from 100% Palomino from the single vineyard of Macharnudo Alto. It is fermented in oak barrels, ages biologically under flor for approximately 8-10 years, then undergoes oxidative ageing, with an average age of around 15-18 years. It shares the same origin as Fino Inocente and is a classic Amontillado.
Tasting notes:Nosing: hazelnut, dried fruit, caramel and subtle saline notes, with reminders of flor ageing.Palate: bone-dry, medium-bodied, with balanced acidity and layers of nuts and spice.Finish: long and clean, with saline character and warm nutty close.
