This 8-year-old single grain, mashed with rye and barley in bourbon barrels, dares with spicy sweetness. Nosing is green, herbal, spicy with acid-drop sweets, soft fudge, peach, melon, apricot, apple, cinnamon, and clove—subversive toffee depth. The palate is sweet first, creamy vanilla, light acidity, green herbal side, thick cinnamon, clove, and subversive spice. It's bold, atypical with rich texture. The finish is medium, sharply spicy with dried coconut, fading to warm herbal echoes. This rye twist redefines Teaninich's grain profile innovatively.
Teaninich Distillery, in Alness, Northern Highlands, was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro, a Napoleonic war hero blinded in battle. Built on his estate to curb illicit distilling, it used advanced methods early. Sold in 1850, rebuilt in 1896, it joined DCL in 1933, now Diageo. Pioneered "A" and "B" still houses in 1970 for varied styles, closed briefly in 1980s. Producing 10 million liters, mostly for blends, its history from war hero's venture to tech innovator underscores Highland resilience.
